After more than three decades in the spotlight, Bangladesh’s iconic model and dancer Sadia Islam Mou has made her first appearance on a podcast, sharing personal reflections and untold stories about her career. She joined the seventh episode of “Behind the Fame with RRK”, hosted by Rumman Rashid Khan and produced by Z.I. Faisal. The episode will be broadcast tonight at 9:00 PM on Masranga Television and Radio Dinraat 93.6 FM.
For 36 years, Mou has been regarded by many as the country’s top female model. But she resists embracing the title. “Others after me have done incredibly well,” she said. “Still, I’m grateful that the next generation remembers my name.”
Mou continues to remain active in both modeling and dance, the fields where she is most celebrated. Acting, however, was never her main pursuit. Reflecting on her early days in drama, she admitted, “I didn’t have the interest at first. Even after my first drama aired, my friends told me not to continue because of my voice. I have to admit, I never gave acting the time I gave modeling and dance.”
Bonds From the ’90s
Looking back on the modeling circuit of the 1990s, Mou recalled the sense of camaraderie among colleagues. She highlighted her enduring friendship with fellow model Nobel: “Nobel has always protected me. From the beginning, our relationship was built on mutual respect, which is probably why our chemistry appeared so natural on screen.”
Mou also reminisced about a commercial shoot in Mumbai, where she spent time riding horse-drawn carriages with stars like Shomi Kaiser, Bipasha Hayat, and Afsana Mimi. “They were the superstars of that time,” she said. “Compared to them, I was nobody.”
The podcast offered fans a more candid side of Mou, one that rarely surfaces in her television appearances. As she marks three decades in acting and nearly four in modeling, her reflections reveal both humility and resilience — qualities that have helped secure her place as one of Bangladesh’s most enduring cultural figures.
