Saying that members of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir are gathering around the Dhaka University campus to carry out "destructive activities", Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Rakibul Islam today said if any untoward incident happens today, it would be responsibility of Jamaat and the VC.
"Even if any minor unwanted incident happens today, only Jamaat-e-Islami and you [vice-chancellor] will be responsible. Jamaat has once again proven today that it is a terrorist organisation, as they are gathering with arms without any reason," alleged Rakib during a meeting with the VC at the Senate building.
A heated argument broke out during the meeting between Chhatra Dal leaders and DU VC Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan.
JCD leader Rakib said there is "no way to avoid today's incident".
"The top officials in the Dhaka University administration have become 'Jamaatised'. They are weak towards Jamaat. We will continue our protest against this administration," he added.
Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin alleged, "Jamaat-Shibir activists are taking positions at eight points of the university to carry out terrorist activities."
During the meeting, VC Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan said that he did not know that members of Jamaat and Shibir had been gathering since morning.
"After 4:20pm, if there were any concerns, we immediately took action. Police were here all day, and a new platoon of police was added. Rab and Swat also took positions. Any claim that no steps were taken is completely false," said the VC.
"New information came in that some gatherings were happening, and we are now taking steps regarding that," he said.
