A total of 471 candidates have been finalized to contest in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election.
The final list was published on Tuesday at the university’s Senate Building.
Initially, Election Commission had released a draft list of 509 candidates. Out of those, 28 candidates withdrew their nominations, while 10 others who were previously dropped did not appeal, reducing the final tally to 471.
The nomination process began on August 12 and continued until August 19, with candidates required to submit their forms by August 20.
This year, students will compete for 28 positions in the central union, including Vice President (VP), General Secretary (GS), Assistant General Secretary (AGS), and various secretarial roles such as Liberation War and Democratic Movement Affairs, Science and Technology, Common Room, Reading Room and Cafeteria, International Affairs, Literature and Culture, Sports, Student Transport, Social Welfare, Research and Publications, Career Development, Health and Environment, and Human Rights and Legal Affairs.
Additionally, 13 executive member positions are also open.
According to the final list, 45 candidates are running for VP, 19 for GS, and 25 for AGS.
Other positions such as Liberation War Secretary have 17 candidates, International Affairs has 14, Literature and Culture has 19 and the executive member positions alone have attracted 217 contenders.
The upcoming election has generated significant interest, reflecting a renewed enthusiasm for student representation at Dhaka University.
