A Dhaka court on Thursday dismissed a case filed by a 19-year-old girl against her parents under the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act, after the parties reached an out-of-court settlement.
The order was issued by Metropolitan Magistrate M.A. Azharul Islam following a hearing.
Plaintiff's lawyer Somaiyaad Shahriar confirmed the development, stating that the court dismissed the case as both parties agreed to a resolution.
Earlier, on June 22, Mehreen Ahmed,19, filed the case against her mother Jannatul Ferdous and father Nasir Ahmed, alleging physical and emotional abuse at their Mohammadpur residence on May 25. The court had recorded the plaintiff's statement and issued summons to the accused parents.
According to the complaint, Mehreen claimed that her parents physically assaulted her, used abusive language and interfered with her personal freedom despite being an adult. She also alleged repeated verbal abuse, denial of access to household essentials, and mental harassment.
The case highlighted complex family dynamics and raised questions about personal rights and protection within domestic settings. However, with the dispute now resolved, the legal proceedings have come to an end.
