BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the people of Bangladesh did not struggle and sacrifice to hand over the country's responsibility to any "great man".
"There is no reason to believe that Bangladeshis have to wait for some great man from any country to come and solve the issues of democracy here," he said.
He made the comments to reporters after a meeting with leaders of NAP (Bhasani), Bangladesh Aam Janata Party, and Bangladesh People's Party at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan today.
Amir Khasru said that the 16-year-long struggle was "for democracy, for restoring Bangladesh's democratic order, for reclaiming the people's right to vote, and for restoring ownership to the people".
"Whichever government is elected by the people's votes will be accountable to the people. It does not matter which government it is," he added.
