Türkiye detains 83 IS suspects in nationwide crackdown

Turkish security forces have detained 83 suspects across 28 provinces in a nationwide operation targeting the Islamic State (IS) terror group, the Interior Ministry said Friday.

The raids were carried out by provincial gendarmerie commands in coordination with the Gendarmerie General Command's Counter-Terrorism Department and local chief public prosecutor's offices.

According to the ministry, those detained include alleged members of IS, individuals accused of providing financial support to the organization through affiliated contacts and purported aid organizations, and people spreading propaganda for the group via social media platforms.

The ministry did not reveal the identities of the suspects or confirm whether formal charges had been filed, but emphasized that operations against IS activities and financial networks would continue.

Türkiye officially designated IS as a terrorist organization in 2013 and has subsequently faced repeated attacks claimed by or linked to the group.
