BNP Acting Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said his party and the Nationalist Ulama Dal will resist any attempt to turn Bangladesh into a colony or a subservient state.He made the remarks on Friday while addressing a protest rally and procession organised by the Jatiyatabadi Ulama Dal at the North Gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque following Juma prayers. The programme was part of the BNP’s centrally announced activities.
He said, "There is no place in this country for forces that are anti-state, anti-democracy, and opposed to our independence and sovereignty. The BNP and the Nationalist Ulama Dal will erect formidable barricades on every street, at every intersection, and across the length and breadth of the country against those who wish to colonize Bangladesh or turn it into a subservient state."
The BNP leader noted that Tarique Rahman represents the third generation of his family to address the United Nations; his father spoke there in 1980, and his mother in 1992. Today, their eldest son, Tarique Rahman, has delivered a speech there as well.
Referring to the speech delivered by Tarique Rahman at the UN General Assembly, Rizvi mentioned that the leader advocated for using logic, diplomacy, education, and humanity—rather than weapons—as tools for change. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining relations with every country in the world based on mutual respect and equality.
Rizvi added that Tarique Rahman reiterated his support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and called for the dignified repatriation of the Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh to their homeland.
He stated that people across the globe desire peace, not war. War leads to rising prices for food, fuel, and other commodities; industrial plants shut down, and people lose their jobs. The Nationalist Ulama Dal is protesting against those who seek to destabilize the country by torching vehicles.
Rizvi asserted that the BNP had come to power through free and fair elections. He also mentioned that the government is working for the people and for social protection.
