Photo : MoFABangladesh has renewed its call for an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations.State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam made the call at a high-level ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution at UN Headquarters in New York on Thursday, according to a foreign ministry’s press release issued here today.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, she called for faster implementation of arrangements under UN Security Council Resolution 2803, with clear accountability and Palestinian ownership.
The state minister also urged protection of the mandate of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and sustained funding for its work.
She called for measures to prevent forced displacement and demographic change in Gaza, and for an end to settlement expansion.
Ministers and senior representatives of member states and international organisations attended the meeting, which discussed steps to advance the two-state solution.
