Adani Power has restarted the faulty unit at its Godda thermal power plant in Jharkhand, India, bringing relief to Bangladesh's national grid.

The plant's second 800-megawatt (MW) unit was successfully brought back online ahead of schedule at 5:17 AM Bangladesh time on Sunday. Grid synchronization was scheduled for completion by 11:30 AM, paving the way for full power restoration to Bangladesh by noon.

The second unit shut down abruptly late Thursday night due to a technical glitch in its boiler system. The outage caused supply from the 1,600MW capacity plant to drop from over 1,400MW to below 750MW, aggravating nationwide load-shedding.

Engineers initially estimated that repairs would take at least 48 hours. However, Adani Power confirmed in an official statement on Sunday that repair teams resolved the boiler issue earlier than anticipated.

The Godda facility serves as a vital electricity import source for Bangladesh. Officials at the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) expect the unit's early restoration to increase overall national grid supply and significantly reduce current load-shedding pressures.
