File PhotoBangladesh's economy is projected to reach $677 billion by 2030, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). By this time, the country is forecast to surpass the economies of Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand in terms of nominal gross domestic product (GDP) size.
The findings were published in a report titled 'The $150 Trillion Global Economy in 2030' by the Canadian media outlet Visual Capitalist, based on IMF's World Economic Outlook projections.
According to the IMF forecast, the global economy is expected to exceed $150 trillion within the next four years, with a significant portion of this growth coming from emerging Asian economies.
The United States is projected to remain the world's largest economy in 2030, with a nominal GDP of $37.7 trillion, followed by China at $26 trillion. Germany is expected to hold the third position with a GDP of $6.2 trillion.
The report indicates a close contest for the third-largest economy, with Germany and India nearly tied. Germany's projected GDP in 2030 is $6.178 trillion, while India's is $6.173 trillion, a difference of only $5 billion. If current growth trends continue, India could surpass Germany in nominal GDP ranking.
By 2030, the combined economic output of Asia and the Middle East is expected to reach $55.7 trillion, accounting for more than one-third of the global economy. After China and India, Japan will be Asia's third-largest economy with a projected GDP of $5 trillion, followed by South Korea ($2.3 trillion) and Indonesia ($2.1 trillion).
Europe's combined economy is projected to reach $37 trillion in 2030. The European Union's collective nominal GDP could reach $26.5 trillion, with Germany, France and Italy leading the bloc. The United Kingdom is expected to remain the largest non-EU economy in Europe at $5.1 trillion.
However, Russia's economy is forecast to contract between 2026 and 2030, making it one of the few major economies to face a contraction during this period.
