Annual bilateral trade between Bangladesh and India currently stands at around $12 billion, with Bangladesh’s exports to India accounting for nearly $2 billion.
A high-level delegation from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is set to arrive in Dhaka today for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties between Bangladesh and India.
An advance team has already reached Dhaka to make preparations for the delegation's visit, officials of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) said.
The visit comes amid strained bilateral relations and follows two years of disruption to businesses in both countries due to port restrictions imposed by Bangladesh and India.
During the visit, the delegation is scheduled to meet Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktader, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, as well as representatives of the FBCCI and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).
The delegation is expected to include representatives from major Indian companies and business groups, including Godrej Industries, Arvind Limited, The Infravision Foundation, LMW Global, Mahindra Group, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd, Larsen & Toubro, Forbes Marshall, Numailgarh Refinery Ltd, Beximco IOC Petroleum Ltd and Apollo Hospitals.

According to the CII, Bangladesh is India's largest trading partner in South Asia, and the organisation wants to further expand bilateral trade.
The industry body has said economic cooperation remains the backbone of relations between the two countries, while greater market access, reduced non-tariff barriers and improved border infrastructure could significantly increase trade.
