The Bangladesh Community Welfare Committee-2026, registered with the Bangladesh Embassy in Laos, hosted a reception attended by senior Bangladeshi officials, embassy representatives and members of the Bangladeshi diaspora in the country.
Asad Alam Siam, secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the programme, while Bangladesh Ambassador to Vietnam and Laos Lutfur Rahman was the chief guest. The event was presided over by Bangladesh Community Welfare Committee President Mazharul Haque (AD).
The programme brought together committee leaders and Bangladeshi expatriates living in Laos to discuss their concerns, prospects and the need for a safe and supportive working environment.
The participants raised issues related to banking services and expansion of bank branches, healthcare and hospital facilities, employment, administrative cooperation and access to essential civic services. They also called for government and administrative services for expatriates to be made more accessible and effective.
The discussions particularly focused on ensuring that Bangladeshi workers seeking employment in Laos can obtain legal jobs safely, access necessary administrative and civic services and avoid difficulties at their workplaces.
Ambassador Lutfur Rahman listened to the expatriates' concerns and assured them of his support in addressing their problems through coordination with relevant authorities. He also expressed his willingness to work with the community to improve the welfare and living and working conditions of Bangladeshis in Laos.
Mazarul Haque and other leaders of the Bangladesh Community Welfare Committee pledged to work closely with the embassy and relevant authorities to address the community's concerns.
The organisers said Bangladeshi expatriates are contributing to the country's economy and image through their work and remittances. They expressed hope that greater cooperation between the embassy and the diaspora community would strengthen unity among Bangladeshis in Laos and help resolve their longstanding problems.
