New Delhi has invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit India on a bilateral visit and to participate in the outreach session of the upcoming BRICS summit.
Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared this information at the weekly briefing of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday.
He said, “Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was formally invited to visit India soon after the new government took office in Bangladesh. At the same time, he has also been invited to participate in the outreach session of the 18th BRICS summit to be held in India in September as the current chairman of the regional alliance BIMSTEC.”
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's recent meeting with the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka was positive and constructive. Various aspects of the bilateral relations of the two countries and issues of mutual interest were discussed in the meeting.
He said that regular communication and high-level dialogue continue to advance relations between Bangladesh and India.
The 18th BRICS summit will be hosted by India on September 12 and 13. As per the BRICS tradition, the heads of government of the countries leading the regional alliances are invited to the outreach session of the summit. In line with that, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the current chairman of BIMSTEC, has been invited.
