Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman said that no policy decision has been made yet on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's India visit.
He said this while talking to the reporters at the Foreign Ministry on Monday.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was paid a courtesy call on Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Dinesh Trivedi.
After the meeting, journalists wanted to know when relations with India will normalize. “They have extended two invitations to the Prime Minister, one to BIMSTEC and the other to the bilateral one. Will you accept either of these invitations?”
In response, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman said, "First of all, I am not a fortune teller; so I cannot say when relations will normalize. The second point is that the Prime Minister was not invited to BIMSTEC, but to the Chairperson of BIMSTEC. You should try to understand this difference."
“Earlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had written a letter to Bangladsh Prime Minister, which was handed over on the day of government formation, in which he invited us. There is another invitation, which we will see.”
The journalists asked again, has there been any discussion or decision regarding the visit to India today? In response, the Foreign Minister said, no, we have not taken any policy decision on this matter yet.
When asked whether the Indian High Commissioner discussed the Ganga Treaty with the Prime Minister, Khalilur Rahman said, the meeting with the High Commissioner was a purely courtesy meeting. In a meeting between a head of government and a High Commissioner, agreements or such specific issues are usually not discussed.
Then, the Foreign Minister advised the journalists to understand the diplomatic protocols or levels.
