Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the Awami League could only issue threats and warnings from abroad and had no capacity to carry out any activities.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday.
"Awami League has no capacity to cause sabotage. Sitting abroad, they only issue some threats and warnings," he said.
Salahuddin Ahmed said the government and its affiliated parties would hold a programme on August 5 to mark the anniversary of the July Uprising.
He said law enforcement agencies remained on high alert despite activities by extremist groups.
On former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, who was detained in Dubai, the home minister said the government had taken steps to cancel his bail and bring him back to Bangladesh.
"The government has taken all initiatives and is trying to cancel his bail and bring him back home," he said.
The minister also said an investigation was underway into attacks on programmes of the National Citizens' Party (NCP).
He added that U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor had expressed satisfaction after visiting Bangladesh and meeting with the prime minister.
