Rail services on Cox's Bazar route suspended

Train services on the Cox’s Bazar route remain suspended as floodwaters continue to submerge Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar railway line following rough weather, heavy rainfall, and hill runoff.

According to Bangladesh Railway Director (Public Relations) Anisur Rahman, the railway track between Janalihat and Sholoshahar stations remains under nearly two feet of water, making it impossible to resume normal train operations.

He said the Paryatak Express, which departed Dhaka for Cox's Bazar on Tuesday, had its onward journey from Chattogram to Cox's Bazar cancelled. The train has since returned to Dhaka from Chattogram.

Meanwhile, the Cox's Bazar Express, which departed Dhaka on Wednesday, has been waiting at Chattogram Railway Station since early morning.

Railway authorities said the train cannot continue to Cox's Bazar until floodwaters recede from the tracks in the Sholoshahar-Janalihat section.

Bangladesh Railway has also begun refunding ticket fares to passengers affected by the service suspension.
