The government has decided to deploy army personnel in five key areas, including Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas, to maintain law and order ahead of the anniversary of the ousted Awami League.
In an urgent order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday, the deployment was approved following reports of possible unrest and violence by banned organisations through processions, road blockades and other activities in different parts of the country.
The order said the situation could lead to a deterioration in law and order situation in several districts and cause public suffering.
Army personnel will be deployed from 22-30 June in Dhaka Metropolitan Area, Chattogram Metropolitan Area, Gazipur Metropolitan Area, Narayanganj district, Gopalganj district and Faridpur district.
The deployment aims to ensure public safety across the country during the specified period.
