A views exchange meeting was held between Dr. Shahadat Hossain and the newly elected REHAB Chattogram Regional Committee on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
The meeting was attended by REHAB Vice President and Chairman of the REHAB Chattogram Regional Committee, Mohammad Morshedul Hasan, who led the newly elected committee members.
During the meeting, Morshedul Hasan said that according to a 2017 circular issued by the Ministry of Commerce, developers must be enlisted as REHAB members to legally operate real estate businesses. However, many developer companies are still operating without complying with the government directive, he said.
He also alleged that many individuals are conducting business illegally through share-building projects, causing harassment to customers and depriving the government of significant revenue. He sought the Mayor’s cooperation in stopping such irregularities.
Morshedul Hasan further requested the inclusion of one REHAB representative in the Chattogram City Corporation development committee.
REHAB Director and Co-Chairman-1 of the Chattogram Regional Committee, Sarich Binte Noor, stressed the need for coordinated efforts among Chattogram City Corporation, CDA, WASA, PDB, BTCL and other development authorities to ensure sustainable urban development, modernization, and reduction of public suffering.
She also requested the introduction of a one-stop service system for City Corporation-related approvals for REHAB members.
REHAB Director and Co-Chairman-2 of the Chattogram Regional Committee, ASM Abdul Gaffar Miajy, urged the City Corporation to designate specific dumping locations for piling soil and construction waste during project implementation. He also sought permission for road cutting and exemption of holding tax for under-construction projects.
At the meeting, Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain shared his plans and programmes aimed at transforming Chattogram into a clean, prosperous, modern, and livable city.
After hearing the proposals and demands raised by the REHAB leaders, the Mayor assured them of his sincere support in resolving the issues and instructed the concerned officials to take necessary steps.
Among others present at the meeting were members of the REHAB Chattogram Regional Committee — Hrishikesh Chowdhury, Syed Irfanul Alam, Nur Mohammad, and Ashish Roy Chowdhury.
