Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday began his official duties at Bangabhaban, marking his first working day at the President's Office since assuming office.
Hafiz Uddin arrived at Bangabhaban from his official residence at the Jatiya Sangsad and took part in the President's regular official activities, according to official sources.
He assumed the role of Acting President on July 24 after President Md. Shahabuddin resigned. As Speaker of the National Parliament, Hafiz Uddin took over the responsibilities in accordance with the Constitution.
On Sunday, shortly after assuming office, he paid tribute to the martyrs of Bangladesh's Liberation War at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar. He also signed the memorial's visitor's book in the presence of senior civilian and military officials, including the chiefs of the armed forces.
Later, after returning to Dhaka, he paid tribute at the graves of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
