The body of Bangladeshi expatriate Girish Chandra Sutradhar, who died after falling ill in Bahrain, arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday (15 April) morning.
An Emirates Airlines flight carrying the body landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 8:30am.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir received the body at the airport and handed it over to the deceased’s younger brother, Samar Chandra Sutradhar.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, including its Secretary, as well as other relevant government officials, were present at this time.
While speaking, the minister said the government places the highest priority on the welfare of Bangladeshi workers abroad. He added that Tk35,000 had been provided as immediate assistance for funeral arrangements, and a further Tk300,000 would be given to the family upon submission of the required heirship certificate.
He also urged all migrant workers to register with the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) before going abroad, so they can be included in the official database and receive assistance when necessary.
The minister expressed condolences and prayed for the departed soul.
Girish Chandra Sutradhar hailed from the Purba Machhpara area of Sylhet Sadar Upazila in Sylhet district and had recently died while working in Bahrain.
