Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India will ease visa procedures for Bangladeshi citizens, particularly for medical treatment and business purposes, in the coming weeks.

He made the announcement during talks with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The assurance came amid discussions on bilateral cooperation, regional issues, and trade, reflecting both countries’ commitment to strengthening ties.

Khalilur Rahman, accompanied by Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir and Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah, also met Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

The Bangladeshi delegation had earlier held talks with India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on Tuesday evening.

During the discussions, both sides emphasised advancing bilateral relations across multiple dimensions and exchanged views on key regional and international matters.

Khalilur thanked the Indian government for the recent supply of diesel to Bangladesh and requested an increase in the supply of diesel and fertiliser. Minister Puri indicated that the Indian government would consider the request favourably.

The meetings also covered judicial cooperation and law enforcement matters. Khalilur expressed gratitude for India’s role in apprehending the suspected killers of martyr Osman Hadi. Both sides agreed that the arrested individuals will be returned to Bangladesh under the existing extradition treaty.

The Bangladesh delegation also reiterated its request for the extradition of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, both of whom have been sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal.

Both sides agreed to continue consultations on key bilateral issues, signalling a strengthened partnership between the neighbouring countries.
