Voting has begun in two constituencies—Sherpur-3 (general election) and Bogura-6 (by-election).
Polling started at 7:30am and will continue until 4:30pm. A festive election atmosphere is prevailing in both constituencies.
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud said on Wednesday that all necessary measures have been taken by the Election Commission.
He added that the situation remains completely under control so far. More than adequate law enforcement personnel will be deployed across the constituencies. No irregularities will be tolerated. Given the level of preparation, no one is expected to dare to commit any wrongdoing.
He also stated that if any unexpected situation arises, law enforcement agencies will deal with it strictly.
A correspondent from Bogura reported that Bogura-6 constituency, formed with Bogura Sadar Upazila—known as an industrial town—has 150 polling centers with a total of 450,307 voters. Law enforcement agencies have identified 53 centers as risky.
Meanwhile, a correspondent from Sherpur reported that Sherpur-3 constituency, consisting of Sreebardi and Jhenaigati upazilas, has 128 polling centers with a total of 413,377 voters. Of these, 28 centers have been marked as highly risky, and 32 centers in the Garo hilly areas have been identified as remote.
For the first time in the 13th parliamentary election, the Election Commission introduced voting through postal ballots for both expatriates and domestic voters. A total of 7,309 voters registered for postal voting in Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3.
In Bogura-6, ballots were sent to 1,281 expatriates and 2,455 domestic voters. In Sherpur-3, ballots were sent to 383 expatriates and 3,190 domestic voters.
However, as of yesterday, only 5 expatriates voted via postal ballot in Sherpur-3, and 23 in Bogura-6.

In the 13th national parliamentary election, voting was held in 299 constituencies, where BNP won 208 seats and formed the government. However, the general election in Sherpur-3 remained pending after a candidate’s death led to its postponement.
Additionally, the current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman vacated the Bogura-6 seat after winning in two constituencies. The Election Commission later announced fresh schedules for both seats.
In the Bogura-6 by-election, BNP candidate Rezaul Karim Badsha, Jamaat candidate Abidur Rahman Sohel, and Bangladesh Development Party candidate Al Amin Talukdar are contesting.
In Sherpur-3, BNP candidate Mahmudul Haque Rubel, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Masudur Rahman, and Bangladesh Socialist Party (Marxist) candidate Mohammad Mizanur Rahman are contesting.
