A bill has been passed in the National Parliament setting the maximum age limit for entry into government jobs at 32 years.
Through this, the ordinance issued by the interim government has now been turned into a permanent law.
On Sunday, on the eighth day of the 13th session of Parliament, the bill titled “Maximum Age Limit for Direct Recruitment in Government, Autonomous, Statutory Authorities, Public Non-Financial Corporations and Self-Governing Organizations Bill, 2026” was passed by voice vote.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad presided over the session.
State Minister for Public Administration Md Abdul Bari placed the bill for consideration. As there were no proposed amendments, the speaker directly put the clauses to vote, and it was passed by voice vote.
According to the new law, the maximum age limit for direct recruitment to all cadres of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) and non-cadre government jobs will be 32 years. The same age limit will apply to autonomous, semi - autonomous, statutory authorities, public non-financial corporations, and self-governing organisations.
However, for jobs where the age limit was previously higher (such as 33, 35, 40, or 45 years), it will now be reduced to 32 under this law.
Leader of the Opposition Shafiqur Rahman raised a point of order regarding the supplementary agenda during the bill’s introduction. He said that a special committee had submitted reports on 133 ordinances of the interim government and emphasised that each ordinance should be discussed in detail in Parliament as they are linked to the spirit of the July movement.
