The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has reduced gold prices in the domestic market, with the rate of 22-carat gold cut by more than Tk2,000 per bhori.
According to a Bajus notification issued on Monday morning, the price of 22-carat gold has been fixed at Tk245,818 per bhori (11.664 grams), down by Tk2,158 from the previous rate.
The new prices came into effect from 10am on Monday.
Bajus said the adjustment was made in line with a decline in prices of pure gold and silver in the international market. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the association’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring.
As per the revised rates, 21-carat gold is priced at Tk234,621 per bhori, while 18-carat gold stands at Tk198,375 per bhori. Traditional gold has been set at around Tk163,800 per bhori.
In gram terms, the price of 22-carat hallmarked gold is Tk21,075, 21-carat Tk20,115, 18-carat Tk17,245 and traditional gold Tk14,045.
Bajus also revised silver prices. The new rates are Tk475 per gram for 22-carat silver, Tk455 for 21-carat, and Tk390 for 18-carat.
The association said the prices will remain effective nationwide until further notice. However, a 5% VAT, as set by the government, will be applicable on gold jewellery purchases.
The notification was signed by Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, chairman of Bajus’s Pricing and Price Monitoring Committee.
