A madrasa teacher in Narsingdi has been detained following allegations of brutally caning a seven-year-old student, said police.
The incident took place at Madrashatul Abrar Arabia, located at Velanagar Jailkhana Mor in Narsingdi Sadar upazila yesterday. The accused teacher was detained this noon.
The victim, Mujahid Hossain, of Kararchar area of Shibpur upazila, is currently undergoing treatment at Narsingdi's 100-bed district hospital.
The child’s family alleged that the teacher Nazmul Islam, 35, beat the boy with a cane for refusing to take a bath, leaving multiple injuries across his body. Several wounds were severe and he was bleeding from them.
The child alleged that he was warned not to disclose the incident.
Dr Mizanur Rahman, superintendent of the district hospital, confirmed that the child was admitted to the facility yesterday evening with visible injury marks.
MR Al-Mamun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Narsingdi Sadar Police Station, said the accused teacher has been detained following a written complaint from the victim’s family.
“Legal action is underway. The accused will be shown arrested in a case and sent to jail after due process,” the OC added.
