The escalating crisis in the Middle East has created severe uncertainty in air travel, with a direct impact on Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport.

On Friday, six additional international flights were cancelled, bringing the total number of cancellations at the airport to 245 from 28 February.

Airport authorities said the ongoing complications in Middle Eastern airspace have primarily affected routes to and from Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.

According to Friday’s bulletin, the cancelled flights included one inbound and one outbound flight operated by US-Bangla Airlines, two flights (arrival and departure) by Air Arabia from Sharjah, and two more flights by SalamAir on Middle Eastern routes.

Flight operations on Middle East-bound routes remain largely disrupted. However, despite the adverse conditions, a total of nine arrival and six departure flights by various airlines remained operational on the day. Flights operated by SalamAir, Air Arabia, and US-Bangla Airlines on United Arab Emirates routes are facing the greatest uncertainty.

Public Relations Officer of Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport, Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, said that due to the ongoing war-like situation in the Middle East, authorities were compelled to cancel a total of 245 international flights between 28 February and 3 April.

“The impact of the conflict has directly affected passenger services, leaving thousands of expatriates and travellers in distress,” he said. “Both airport authorities and passengers are now anxiously waiting for the situation to improve.”
