Three people riding in an auto-rickshaw were killed after being crushed by a sand-laden truck in Lalpur upazila of Natore. Four others were seriously injured in the incident.
The accident occurred around 6:45am on Tuesday in the Nabinagar area on the Ishwardi-Lalpur regional highway.
The deceased were identified as Zahidul Islam (50), son of Joakul Islam Joha Master from Vellabaria area; Monir (27), son of Sekendar Ali from Borobadkoya village; and Babul (40), son of Fazlur from Chhoto Badkoya village.
The injured are: Rajibul Islam (26), son of Fazlur Rahman from Vellabaria; Rabbi (25), son of Siddiq Ali; Majnu (35), son of Abdul Khaleq from Ramkrishnapur village; and Mithun (30), son of Ajit from Borobadkoya village.
According to local sources, around 6:45am in the Nabinagar area, a sand-laden truck lost control and ran over a battery-powered auto-rickshaw. Zahidul Islam died on the spot. Locals rescued six seriously injured people and took them to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex.
After initial treatment, doctors referred five of them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced care. Monir died on the way near Charghat, and Babul died after reaching Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Injured Rajibul Islam said, “We had hired an auto-rickshaw and were going to Faridpur for onion harvesting work. On the way, when we reached the Nabinagar area, a sand-laden truck lost control and ran over our vehicle.”
Dr Kausar of Lalpur Upazila Health Complex said that five injured persons were referred for advanced treatment; Monir died on the way, and Babul died after arriving at the medical college hospital. Rajibul Islam is currently receiving treatment at Lalpur Upazila Health Complex.
Officer-in-Charge of Lalpur Police Station, Mojibur Rahman, said that police were sent to the scene after receiving the news. The truck involved in the accident has been seized. After legal procedures, the bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their families.
