A woman and her one-year-old daughter were killed as a fire broke out at their home in Natore’s Gurudaspur upazila early today, fire service and police officials said.
The victims were identified as Atia Khatun, 30, and Rauja Khatun said Gurudaspur Fire Station Officer Ataur Rahman.
Atia and her daughter died at the scene, while her husband, Rantu Miah, and mother-in-law, Moneka Begum, were critically injured in the blaze, Ataur Rahman said.
He added that Moneka was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
The fire broke out around 4:30am while the family was asleep and quickly spread through the house, trapping them inside, Ataur Rahman said. He added that the fire might have caused by an electrical short circuit and was brought under control by 5:30am.
Police recovered the bodies and are taking necessary legal steps, said Md Shafikuzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Gurudaspur Police Station, adding that Moneka Begum’s condition remains critical.
