Miscreants hacked to death a grocery shop owner at Charsindur Bazar in Palash upazila of Narsingdi last night.
Shahed Al Mamun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Palash Police Station confirmed the murder today.
Victim Moni Chakraborty, 40, was a resident of Sadharchar union in Shibpur upazila. He had been running his grocery shop at Charsindur Bazar for a long time.
The local market traders and the community has protested against the murder earlier today.
OC Shahed Al Mamun and locals said that, like every day, the victim closed his shop around 11:00pm and was heading towards home when unknown assailants suddenly attacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rushed him to Palash Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, the police officer said.
Residential Medical Officer of Palash Upazila Health Complex Abdullah Al Mamun told that the victim had injuries on the back of his head.
"Primarily, it appears to be an injury caused by a sharp weapons. He was brought to the hospital dead on Monday night, and the body was sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsy on Tuesday morning," he added.
Police visited the spot and are working to arrest those involved in the crime, the OC said.
"As of Tuesday noon, no written complaint has been filed by the victim's family. However, they (family) have assured us that they will submit a written complaint," he said.
