Lalon Utshab, a gathering of bauls, devotees, and musicians, is going to be held in Kushtia and Dhaka to commemorate the 135th death anniversary of mystic saint and philosopher Lalon Shah. The government has announced the nationwide celebration on Monday through the official Facebook page of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
This year’s Lalon Utshab (Lalon Festival) will take place over three days, from 17 to 19 October, in a grand tribute to Lalon’s music and message of spiritual freedom.
The main celebration will be held at Lalon Akhra in Cheuria, Kushtia, and the spiritual home of Lalon.
During the festival, the Akhra will be transformed into a vibrant gathering place of faith, music, and reflection.
From morning till night, the sacred grounds will echo with Baul performances and bhaab-geeti (songs of emotion and devotion), philosophical discussions on Lalon’s teachings, interactive sessions exploring his vision of unity beyond caste, creed, and religion.
Notable performers include TunTun Baul, Sunil Karmakar, Rowshan Fakir, Latif Shah, and hundreds of other bauls and fakirs from different regions of Bangladesh.
A special Lalon Utshab will also be held in the capital on 18 October at Suhrawardy Udyan. The Dhaka event will feature an impressive lineup of artists and bands, including Emon Chowdhury & Bengal Symphony, band Lalon, Nirab and Bauls, Pothik Nobi, Suchona Shely, Band Baula, Arup Rahi, and Samogeet.
The Lalon Utshab has long stood as one of Bangladesh’s most enduring cultural traditions — celebrating not only the mystic bard’s soulful music but also his universal philosophy of humanity and equality.
Through this year’s expanded celebrations, the government aims to reinforce Lalon’s message of love, tolerance, and the unity of all human beings — a message that continues to resonate deeply across generations.
