Genesis Theatre marked its 35th founding anniversary with the staging of its popular production “Damal Chele Nazrul” and the presentation of the Nazrul Taroka Award 2025 on Saturday (23 August) at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s National Theatre Hall.
The play, written by Mahmud Ullah and directed by Nur Hossain Rana, was staged for the 32nd time, portraying the struggles and ideals of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Highlighted the struggles, ideals, and indomitable spirit of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Over the years, the production has become a signature presentation of the troupe, drawing wide appreciation for its unique portrayal of Nazrul’s life.
To mark the occasion, Genesis Theatre also honored its former and current members for their outstanding contributions to the organization’s journey. The recognition, named “Nazrul Taroka Sommanona 2025,” reflected the troupe’s commitment to celebrating both art and artists.
Chief guest at the program was writer, cultural personality and ex JASAS president Rezabuddoula Chowdhury, while special guests included actor-director Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Uchchal, Ekushey Padak-winning Nazrul Sangeet singer Fatema Tuz Zohra, writer Abul Kashem Majumdar, Rafiqul Islam of Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Jote and Khandakar Shah Alam of Bangladesh Theatre.
The event was hosted by actor Iman Khan and presided over by founding President Nur Hossain Rana. The celebration drew theatre personalities, cultural activists, journalists, and well-wishers.
