Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Dr Md Najmul Karim Khan has stated that journalist Tuhin was murdered because of filming the criminal activities of a ‘honeytrap’ syndicate.
He also assured that justice will be ensured swiftly.
The commissioner made these remarks during a press briefing held at the GMP headquarters on Saturday morning.
Commissioner Khan informed that CCTV footage analysis has confirmed the direct involvement of eight individuals in the murder case. Of them, seven have already been arrested by the police.
Those arrested include the prime accused Ketu Mizan, who has 15 prior cases filed against him. His wife Parul Akhter alias Golapi, who was actively involved in the honeytrap operations, has also been detained. Other arrestees include Al Amin (2 prior cases), Swadhin (2 cases), Shahjalal (8 cases), Faisal Hasan, and Sabbir (2 cases each).
Another accused, Arman, remains absconding, and efforts are underway to arrest him.
The GMP Commissioner added, “We have arrested the suspects, recovered the murder weapon, obtained CCTV footage, and most of the evidence is now in our hands. Once the post-mortem report is received, we expect to be able to submit the charge sheet as soon as possible. The video evidence has also been sent for forensic analysis.”
He further noted that since 5 August, numerous garment factories have shut down, rendering thousands of workers jobless. As a result, some of these unemployed individuals have turned to crime for survival.
