Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) authorities have expelled four students, including president and general secretary of the university of BCL on charge of attacking the July uprising protesters last year.

Moreover, 41 BCL leaders and activists were banned from their dormitories for life on the same ground.

Those suspended permanently are RUET president and also a Civil Engineering student Fahmid Latif Lyon, general secretary and Computer Science student Soumik Saha, BCL activists, Mechanical and Civil Engineering students Saswata Saha Sagar and Mrinmoy Kanti Biswas.

Furthermore, recommendations were made to the concerned departments to take actions, including ouster, against three former BCL leaders, who are currently employed at the university, on different charges.

They are former Ruet BCL president and the university's assistant engineer Nayeem Rahman Nibir, Physics department's data processor official Mahidul Islam and education department's sub-assistant programmer AKM Anowarul Islam.

The allegations of having arms and drugs were found to be true against them. These were recovered from their office rooms during drives on August 19 last.

Besides, two students were suspended for four semesters or two years for taking unfair means while sitting for the exams earlier.

RUET students' welfare department's director Prof Dr Md Rabiul Islam Sarkar said the actions were taken against the banned BCL leaders and activists as the allegations of attacking the July movement protesters against them were found to be true through investigation.

General students lodged complaints against the banned BCL men in August last year, he said.
