Police arrested content creator Abdullah Al Mamun in Satkhira on Tuesday night in a case filed under the Pornography Control Act over allegations of blackmailing a man with videos and photographs of his intimate moments and demanding Tk 1 lakh.
Mamun was arrested from Chandipur village in Debhata upazila on November 3.
He is the son of Karim Ullah Master of the same village and also serves as the director of a local pre-cadet school.
According to police, Saheb Ali, a former chairman of Nawapara Union Parishad in Debhata, filed case with Satkhira Sadar Police Station on November 1.
The accused in the case include Jisan Babul, president of the Sakhipur union unit of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Mamun, and the complainant's former wife, Jannatul Ferdous, also known as Mousumi.
Two to three unidentified people were also named as accused.
According to the first information report, Saheb Ali divorced his first wife, Mousumi, around six to seven months ago following a family dispute. Mousumi subsequently came into contact with the other accused.
The FIR alleges that Mousumi had previously collected photographs and videos of intimate moments from their married life.
Mamun later obtained the materials and sent them to Saheb Ali through WhatsApp on October 15.
On October 20, the accused allegedly contacted Saheb Ali again through WhatsApp, demanding Tk 1 lakh and threatening to circulate the videos on social media if he failed to pay.
Although an agreement was reportedly reached to pay Tk 50,000, the alleged blackmail continued.
On October 29, the photographs and videos were posted on social media through a Facebook account named 'Sakhipur Union Chhatra Dal'.
Another post was subsequently made from Mamun's personal Facebook account on November 1, the FIR stated.
In his complaint, Saheb Ali alleged that the incident was intended to humiliate him socially and damage his reputation.
He subsequently filed the case with Satkhira Sadar Police Station under the Pornography Control Act, submitting digital evidence.
Jamil Kabir, police inspector (investigation) at Satkhira Sadar Police Station, confirmed Mamun's arrest.
He said police operations were continuing to arrest the prime accused and other people named in the case.
