Garment workers and police clashed again in Mirpur, Dhaka, on Tuesday over the demand for a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000. The Mirpur-11 metro station's services were temporarily suspended due to disruptions to the train schedule.
Local residents said police fired sound grenades and tear gas to disperse the protesting workers when they attempted to take positions on the road. The workers also threw brickbats at police during the confrontation.
Meanwhile, the Metro Rail Passenger Committee said metro rail services continued despite some schedule disruptions caused by the garment workers' protests in Mirpur.
Passengers were advised to contact the relevant station controller to check train schedules or call the helpline at 16145 for further information.
