Over 200 saplings distributed among students in Jhalakathi

A tree plantation and sapling distribution programme was held at Nathullabad High School in Jhalakathi Sadar Upazila on Wednesday, with the theme “Green life, the song of life—today is the tree plantation festival.”

The programme was organised to promote environmental conservation, encourage a love for trees among students and raise awareness about protecting the ecological balance.

Held at the school premises at 2:30pm, the programme saw more than 200 saplings of different species distributed among students. Teachers, students and guests also planted saplings on the school grounds.

Advocate Al-Amin, a former assistant public prosecutor at the Jhalakathi Judge Court, president of Nathullabad High School and office secretary of Sadar Upazila BNP, attended the programme as the chief guest. He joined the students in planting saplings on the school premises.

Sadar Upazila BNP Health Affairs Secretary Md Sabir Hossain, Nathullabad Union BNP Senior Vice-President Md Monowarul Islam, Vice-President Md Abdus Salam and Md Akhter Laskar were present as special guests.

Social worker Md Quddus Hawlader, Ward No. 9 BNP leader Md Lutfar Molla and other local dignitaries were also present.

The programme was conducted by the school's assistant teacher Umme Fatima Farooqui and presided over by acting headmaster Md Alamgir Hossain.

In his presidential address, Alamgir Hossain said planting trees alone was not enough to keep the school environment green and attractive; regular maintenance was equally important. He urged teachers, students and guardians to come forward to ensure proper care of the trees.

Chief guest Al-Amin said there was no alternative to trees for maintaining ecological balance and keeping the environment green. Trees not only provide oxygen but also play an important role in maintaining a healthy and liveable environment.

He called on everyone to participate in tree plantation and take responsibility for caring for the trees they plant. If each person plants at least one tree and ensures its proper care, a green and beautiful environment can be created collectively, he said.

He also referred to the initiative to plant 250 million trees.

Students who took part in the programme said trees play an important role in maintaining environmental balance and supplying oxygen. They welcomed the initiative and urged the organisers to continue such programmes in the future.

Later, the chief guest, along with the students, planted saplings of different species on the school premises. Teachers, students, guardians, local residents and BNP leaders and activists from different levels were present at the event.

The organisers said the programme was aimed at making the school premises greener and more pleasant, fostering a love for trees among students and raising awareness about environmental conservation.
