An NCD (Non-Communicable Disease) Corner has been inaugurated at Jhalokathi District Sadar Hospital to provide integrated healthcare services to patients suffering from hypertension and diabetes.
Prime Minister’s Special Assistant for Health Dr SM Ziauddin Haider, with the rank of State Minister, inaugurated the facility at the hospital premises on Tuesday (September 1) afternoon.
The corner has been established under the High Blood Pressure Control Programme of the Directorate General of Health Services’ Non-Communicable Disease Control Programme and the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh.
Patients will receive diagnosis, treatment, regular monitoring and necessary medical advice for hypertension and diabetes through the facility.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Ziauddin Haider said hypertension and diabetes have become major public health challenges, making early diagnosis, regular treatment and proper medical advice essential.
He said the government is working to strengthen and make primary healthcare more people-friendly. The NCD Corner will help ensure easier access to integrated government healthcare for patients in the district.
Jhalokathi Deputy Commissioner Md Momin Uddin, Sadar Hospital Director (Superintendent) Dr Masum Iftekhar, Deputy Programme Director Dr Shamim Zubair, Resident Medical Officer Dr TM Mehedi Hasan Sunny, along with doctors, officials and programme representatives, attended the inauguration.
Under the programme, integrated healthcare services for hypertension and diabetes patients are currently being provided through NCD Corners at 326 Upazila Health Complexes and five District Sadar Hospitals across the country.
