Ansar-VDP Director General Pays Courtesy Call on President

Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (Ansar-VDP), paid a courtesy call on the Honourable President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to discuss the overall activities, development, modernisation and future plans of the force.

The courtesy meeting was held at Bangabhaban on Tuesday afternoon.

During the meeting, the Ansar-VDP Director General congratulated and extended his greetings to President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on assuming the office of President. He briefed the President on the current activities, ongoing development and modernisation initiatives, as well as future plans of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party.

He also highlighted various public welfare and development-oriented activities undertaken by the force.

The Honourable President appreciated the responsible role and contribution of Ansar-VDP members in maintaining public security during the post-mass uprising period, the 13th National Parliamentary Election and other state activities.

He stressed the importance of increasing the force’s engagement with the people alongside maintaining professionalism, discipline and responsibility among its members in ensuring peace, security and order in the country.

The President said that Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party is the country’s largest people-oriented security and discipline force. The members of this force have been playing an important role for a long time in maintaining national security, public safety and social stability.

He further said that the process of modernising the force and enhancing its organisational capacity should continue to make Ansar-VDP’s role more effective and extensive in ensuring overall security and public welfare.

The Honourable President recalled with respect the contribution of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to the reform of the Ansar force, particularly the establishment of Ansar Battalions and Village Defence Party (VDP). He also remembered the role of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia in the modernisation of the force, enactment of various laws and establishment of the Ansar-VDP Development Bank.

The President emphasised expanding foreign language, technical and technological training programmes to develop skilled and employment-oriented members of the force. He said opportunities should be created for members to acquire diverse skills in line with the demands of the modern world.

The President praised Ansar-VDP’s achievements in solar power generation, human resource development, sports and cultural activities, as well as its contributions to various public-oriented initiatives. He stressed the need to further expand these positive and welfare-focused activities.

The Honourable President assured continued support for the overall development of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party, enhancement of its organisational capacity and welfare of its members.

He also called upon the members of the force to perform their duties with greater dedication, professionalism and responsibility for maintaining peace, security, discipline and public welfare in the country.

During the courtesy meeting, the Ansar-VDP Director General expressed his gratitude to the President and invited him to visit Ansar Academy at a convenient time.

He expressed his determination to make the activities of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party more people-oriented, modern, skilled and effective by following the valuable guidance and advice of the President.

The President’s secretaries and senior officials concerned were present during the meeting.
