A tree plantation and sapling distribution program was held in Jhalakathi to raise environmental awareness among students and encourage them to plant trees.
The program, themed “Call of Green Life, Today’s Sapling Festival,” was organized on Monday (August 31) at Syeda Jamila Khatun School and College in Nathullabad Union of Sadar Upazila.
More than 200 saplings of different species were distributed among students, while several trees were also planted on the school premises.
Advocate Al-Amin, APP of Jhalakathi Judge Court and a candidate for chairman, attended the program as the chief guest. Assistant Headmaster Ghajen Mandal presided over the event in the absence of the school principal Chandra Shekhar Mitra.
Teachers, students, local dignitaries and leaders of various social and political organizations were present.
The chief guest stressed the need for continued tree plantation and sapling distribution to protect the environment and maintain ecological balance. He said similar programs would be organized at different educational institutions in Nathullabad Union in phases.
The organizers said the initiative aimed to build environmental awareness among students, encourage tree plantation and create a greener environment on and around educational institutions.
