Four sweet shops in Bhola town were fined a total of Tk 18,000 during a drive conducted by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) for violating food safety regulations.

The drive was carried out on Thursday in the Sadar Road and Ghoshpotty areas by Md Shah Shoaib Mia, Assistant Director (Current Charge) of the DNCRP's Bhola District Office.

According to the Directorate, Muslim Sweets was fined Tk 5,000, Muslim Misti Ghar Tk 4,000, Islam Sweets Tk 5,000, and Srikrishna Mistanna Bhandar Tk 4,000 for producing, storing, and selling food in unhygienic conditions.

Bhola District Food Safety Officer Iqbal Hasan was present during the drive. Md Sulaiman, president of the Bhola district unit of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), also joined the operation as a representative of the consumer rights organisation.

Officials said regular market monitoring drives would continue to ensure compliance with food safety standards and protect consumers' interests. They also urged traders to maintain proper hygiene in food preparation, storage, and sale.
