Teesta flows 13 cm above danger mark

The Teesta River has swelled again due to continuous heavy rainfall and upstream inflows, with the water level rising above the danger mark.

At 9:00 am on Wednesday, the water level at the Dalia point in Dimla upazila of Nilphamari was recorded at 52.28 metres, which is 13 centimetres above the danger level. The river was also flowing 13 centimetres above the danger mark at 6:00 am. 

As the water level continues to rise, floodwater has started entering low-lying areas in Purba Chhatnai, Khaga Kharibari, Tepa Kharibari, Khalisa Chapani, Jhunagach Chapani and Goyabari unions of Dimla upazila, as well as Golmunda, Dauabari and Shaulmari unions of Jaldhaka upazila.

Dimla Tepa Kharibari Union Parishad Chairman Robiul Islam Shahin said floodwater has begun entering low-lying areas as the Teesta water level continues to rise.

Dalia Water Development Board Executive Engineer Amitabh Chowdhury said the Teesta has been flowing 13 centimetres above the danger level since 6:00 am.
