Two active members of an inter-district auto-rickshaw and easy bike robbery gang have been arrested in a joint operation by Rajbari's Goalanda Ghat Police Station and District Detective Branch (DB) police.
Goalanda Ghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter through a press release on Wednesday (July 29) at around 3 pm.
An incident of easy bike theft occurred from Goalanda. On July 22, easy bike was stolen by using harmful or intoxicating substances and left unconscious in front of Goalanda Upazila Health Complex. Then, easy bike theft case was filed with Goalanda Ghat Police Station on July 26. As part of the investigation of the filed case, a joint operation was conducted by Rajbari District Detective Branch (DB) and Goalanda Ghat Police Station police in the Kumarkhali Upazila intersection area of Kushtia district on Tuesday (July 28) at around 4 pm.
Mohammad Ziarul Islam Hridoy (23), a resident of Hijlakar village in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia, and Md. Shipon Sheikh (28), a resident of Kandabari village in the same upazila, were arrested in the operation.
Police said that during initial interrogation, the two arrested accused confessed that they were members of an organized gang that used to drug drivers by mixing drugs with drinks or various types of food to make them unconscious and then snatch their autorickshaws and easy bikes.
Police also said that operations are continuing to arrest other accused involved in the case and recover the stolen auto-rickshaw and easy bike.
Goalanda Ghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shafiqul Islam said, "Efforts are underway to identify and arrest other members of the gang based on the information provided by the arrested persons. At the same time, the police operation to recover the hijacked vehicles is continuing."
