Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the China Economic and Industrial Zone (CEIZ) under construction in Anwara, Chattogram will eventually attract more than one billion US dollars in investment.
He said that this project will have a positive impact on the economy of not only Anwara but also the entire southern Chattogram and will open new horizons for industrialization.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Bangladesh-China Economic Zone in Belchura area of Anwara on Monday afternoon. The minister said that today's investment is an important step towards achieving the goal of turning Bangladesh into a trillion-dollar economy by 2034.
He said, “We have set a target of creating one crore jobs. This economic zone will create employment opportunities for more than one lakh people. Although there is currently talk ongoing over investing 500 million dollars, eventually more than one billion dollars will be invested in this zone, including all investments along with infrastructure.”
Amir Khasru further said, “The benefits of this economic zone will not be limited to Anwara only, but it will have a positive impact on the economy of the entire South Chattogram. A strong supply chain, various service sectors will be developed here. There will also be accommodation facilities for the workers.”
The Finance Minister said, “Through the implementation of this project, new opportunities will be created not only for industries, but also for housing, transportation, logistics, service sectors and small and medium entrepreneurs. This will bring new momentum to the overall economic activities of South Chattogram.”
