State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has said the BNP-led government is focusing on economic diplomacy to attract investment and achieve its goal of building a trillion-dollar economy.
"We are working to bring the investments needed to implement the trillion-dollar economy into the country. The economy was destroyed during the fascist era. It is being restored from there. The government is emphasising economic diplomacy," she said.
The State Minister made the remarks while speaking to reporters at her office on Sunday afternoon.
Shama Obaed said the BNP government inherited a fragile economy after coming to power and was now working to strengthen foreign investment to support economic recovery.
She said European countries had shown interest in investing in Bangladesh's blue economy, and discussions were ongoing in this regard.
"Investment will not happen by looking at the moon; the investment process is underway," she said.
She added that Bangladesh was seeking investment in several sectors, including energy, the blue economy and garments, while Western countries were also showing interest.
