PM urges editors to highlight govt’s positive initiatives

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday urged newspaper editors to continue offering constructive criticism of the government while also highlighting its positive initiatives so that people remain informed about measures taken in the public interest.

He made the call during a meeting with leaders of the National Editors' Council at the Prime Minister's Office in the Bangladesh Secretariat, according to the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.

The Prime Minister also sought the editors' cooperation in formulating a policy framework for ensuring a free and independent media and protecting journalists.

The eight-member delegation was led by National Editors' Council Convener and Jaijaidin Editor Shafik Rehman and Joint Convener and Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman.

Other members of the delegation included Protidiner Bangladesh Editor Maruf Kamal Khan, Naya Diganta Editor Salahuddin Muhammad Babar, Jugantor Editor Abdul Hye Sikder, Jatiya Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, Waadaa Editor Shafiqul Alam and Manabkantha Editor Shahidul Islam.

The meeting discussed issues relating to the media, journalism and cooperation between the government and the press.
