Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam

Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam has been expelled from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami after an organisational investigation found him guilty of moral misconduct.

The party on Wednesday decided to expel him under Article 62 of its constitution.

Jamaat Central Publicity and Media Secretary Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer announced the decision in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the statement, an emergency meeting of Jamaat’s Central Executive Council was held at 4pm at the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition on Minto Road in the capital. Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman presided over the meeting, attended by members of the Central Executive Council.

The meeting decided to expel Gazi Nazrul from Jamaat under Article 62 of the party’s constitution after an organisational investigation found that allegations published in various media outlets regarding the MP had been proven to constitute moral misconduct.

At the same time, the party decided to immediately inform the Bangladesh Election Commission of his expulsion from the party.
