Five members of a family, including three children, who were killed at their home in Gazipur’s Kapasia upazila on Saturday morning, were laid to rest today in their ancestral village in Gopalganj’s Sadar upazila.
They were buried at Uttar Charpara graveyard in Paiakandi village after their namaz-e-janaza at the Paiakandi Madrasa ground around 11:00am.
A wave of grief swept through the village as ambulances carrying the bodies arrived at the family home in Paiakandi.
Following autopsies, the bodies were handed over to relatives on Saturday night. Under arrangements made by the Gazipur district administration, the bodies were sent to Gopalganj this morning; locals gathered to pay their last respects.
The bodies were found with their throats slit at the family’s home in Gazipur’s Kapasia upazila on Saturday morning. The deceased were identified as Sharmin, 35; her three daughters -- Mim, 16, Maria, 8, and Faria, 2; and her brother, Rasul, 22.
Sharmin’s husband, Forkan Miah, has been absconding since the incident.
According to family and local sources, Sharmin married Forkan about 17 years ago. After living in Dhaka for some time, they had been residing in Kapasia, Gazipur for the last six months. Forkan worked as a car driver.
Sharmin’s father, Shahadat Molla, filed a case against five people on Saturday evening, naming Forkan as the prime accused. The remaining accused were not named.
Meanwhile, two people have been detained for questioning in connection with the murders.
