Suvendu Adhikari has taken oath as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal, marking the first time the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formed a government in the state.
Alongside him, five cabinet ministers also took oath during the swearing-in ceremony of the new state government.
The swearing-in ceremony began at 11:00am local time on Saturday at the historic Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.
The development follows the announcement of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly election results on 4 May.
According to reported figures, the BJP secured a majority with 207 seats, ending the nearly 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress in the state.
The newly formed government is expected to announce its administrative priorities in the coming days.
