Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir has said fuel reserves are being increased to ensure uninterrupted electricity generation in the country.
“Stocks of fuel oil and gas are being raised to maintain normal power generation. At the same time, initiatives have been taken to expand necessary infrastructure and facilities in this sector,” he told journalists on Friday noon after visiting the Basia canal in Sylhet.
He also said the additional cost of importing crude oil would not affect consumers.
Noting that fuel prices in India, Nepal and Pakistan are higher than in Bangladesh, the minister said the price adjustment would not add further pressure to inflation.
“Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources will soon invite tenders for the construction of a new terminal to enhance LNG import capacity,” he added.
