Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) yesterday detained three members of Arakan Army while they were attempting to infiltrate Bangladesh through Amtali border in Naikhongchari upazila of Bandarban.
The detainees were handed over to Naikhongchari Police Station in the afternoon.
Confirming the incident, Naikhongchari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Baten Mridha said, "BGB has handed over three individuals arrested from the border area to us. Legal action is being taken against them."
Myanmar currency was recovered from the arrested individuals at the time.
According to the OC, BGB members on patrol at the border yesterday evening detained the three while they were attempting to infiltrate Bangladesh through the Amtali border area of Ghumdhum. After the detainees were handed over to the police station, they identified themselves as members of Arakan Army, an insurgent outfit of Myanmar, during preliminary interrogation.
Police said the process of taking necessary legal action for infiltrating the country is underway.
